Productivity

Our focus: productivity as a service

At ArcelorMittal Powders we understand that productivity is the most significant issue in Additive Manufacturing. The machines are expensive, and depreciation drives up the cost of parts produced, so maximizing the output of the equipment is the best way to drive down costs per part, which also broadens the range of applications where Additive Manufacturing can be used.

Chemical composition

Chemical composition is the first analysis to determine the type of Steel Powder. Each Powder sample is analyzed and the percentage of the chemical elements that make it up is determined to verify that it is within the parameters established by each norm (such as AISI, DIN, ATMS, etc.) or the customer requirements.

Partcle size distribution (PSD)

The PSD of Steel Powder is shown in a mathematical function that defines the relative quantity, by weight, of the particles according to their size, which is critical in understanding its physical and chemical properties.

To determine the particle size distribution of the powders to be used at each technology and the particle shape. Camsizer + mastersizer

Flowability

Flowability is one of the essential characteristics of Steel Powder. That is why we guarantee adequate values that ensure performance in industrial applications and manufacturing processes.

Morphology

To determine the particle size distribution of the powders to be used at each technology and the particle shape.

Particle size is measured using the technique of dynamic image analysis. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is the most accurate way to analyze the morphology and microstructure of our Steel Powder, which thanks to the gas atomization is spherical and has a minimal number of satellites. This microscope is internally equipped with detectors that collect energy and transform it into images and data.

Density

Apparent density (AD) is the density of loosely packed Steel Powder, achieved when it is poured into a container. Our analysis has shown that green density, the one of a part made out of Steel Powder such that it can be hold to shape with external support is increased with increased AD, so for most applications, AD should be as high as possible.

Apparent density and Tap density give us insight into powder packing density in powder bed technologies and transportation.

Porosity

The definition of porosity is the percentage of void space in a solid structure

Analysis is made with a Light Optical Microscopy (LOM) to study different aspect and properties, such as particles shape and distribution, present of defect, and so on.

Printed parts mechanical and chemical properties

In our laboratory we not only characterize the Powder we manufacture, but we also have Additive Manufacturing printing machines from major suppliers, with different technologies, to produce final parts and carry out all kind of test, including, but not limited to, chemical composition and mechanical properties. If you need help with your project to produce parts, we are eager to provide our expertise and the +10 years of R&D experience.
